Sort by default option
I'm constantly seeing websites that use their sort by feature without a default sort to begin with. Why would anyone choose to do this? Of course they are sorting the list somehow so why don't you communicate this to your users?
In the pictured example (from ASOS) the default sort by option is 'Select'. Instead of using a 'Select' option to sort a menu, just choose a popular sort method (or a method that you want people to use) and remove the 'Select' all together. So, ASOS should just sort the menu by 'What's new' as a default, because I guess that is what they want thier shoppers to see first. Then they can remove the superfluous 'Select' option.
